October
Mid-October, the sea grows uneasy.
A storm builds, releases
its force in crashing waves.
The road crunches with shingle.
A heron flies slowly over reeds.
I still see it:
the grey heron, an unlikely shape,
taking its time,
the reeds burnished,
side-lit by autumn sun.
